One Little Drop

There are many, many people in this world who believe and who have said, “What I say or what I do doesn’t matter. My little drop in the bucket surely isn’t going to make any waves.” Well, if you believe that, think again. Did you know one little drop of water falling into a bucket of acid can cause an explosion? A tiny speck of yeast introduced into some bread dough will leaven the entire mixture?

A drop in the bucket may seem to be insignificant, but in many circumstances it’s NOT! And, whether you realize it or not, the Lord has given you a very special gift called ‘influence’ and that means there are eyes that are watching you. They are watching what you do and what you say, and they are also watching what you don’t do and what you don’t say.

So we can use our influence for good or for bad purposes. God brings out in 2 Corinthians 3:2 that YOU and me are epistles written in the hearts of those around us and “we are known and read by everybody!” But here’s my point. Our heavenly Father wants you to be a good book, not a bad one. The only way we can do that today is by choosing to be a good example; and, also, realizing that we need Jesus to help our words and actions be sensitive to those around us.

The Bible says that the eyes of the Lord go ‘to and fro throughout the earth’ looking for those who are willing for Jesus to shine through in a big way. So all we have to do to get started is raise our hand and say, “Jesus, here I am, willing and ready for action.” But then as we get started we realize we need more.

God’s Word talks about having that Word in season right when someone needs it. Romans 12 brings out that we are to use our gift of exhortation; and, we are to use our tongues and the language of our lives to influence other’s lives for the good. The only way that we can possibly have anything good, worthwhile, and uplifting to say to someone is if we have the Good Word in our mind.

When we take the time to read our Bibles every day, we are in essence preparing our tongues for action. We are getting that Word in season so we have something good to share. There’s been a lot of times when I’ve just been in conversation with someone that a situation comes up, and it just so happens that a text I read a few days ago is just the answer that someone needs. So don’t cut yourself short, if you want to be a blessing, spend some time in God’s Word every day.

Finally, I want to leave you with this text found in Hebrews 10:24 “And let us consider and give attentive continuous care to watching over one another, studying how we may stir up love and helpful deeds and noble activities.” God wants us to really think about how we can “watch over one another.” In other words, how we can be a blessing. And then He says “study how you can stir up some helpful deeds and noble activities.”

There’s one thing I know for a fact. If we follow God’s instruction, our ‘little drop in the bucket’ that we give to the world is not going to be a drop in a bucket – it’s going to be a tidal wave of blessing to the people around us.
